First Day in Bogota!!

So were just finishing up our first day in Bogota, Colombia and it's already been such an amazing time. We started the day bright and early, had an amazing breakfast, and headed straight to "The Jungle". The Jungle is a safe place for street kids to come play. Playing with these kids was such a blessing, but also so hard. Not being able to speak Spanish is hard, especially when all you want to do is get to know the kids, but you never know the power of love. Sitting with one of the kids, and learning their name, and giving them a hug can make their day. The hardest part of my day was holding a little boy's hand, walking and hopping with him back to his home, and seeing how poor some of these families live was heartbreaking. I had the chance to go to the building where his family of five lived in one room. Today there was no electricity, and water all over the floor and coming from the roof. It was eye opening to see how little this little boy has, and yet he still finds joy in the little things, like hopping down the street, while I have so much that I don't even appreciate. This was challenging, but also showed me how much we have to be grateful for, and how blessed we truly are.

We haven't even been in Bogota for 24 hours and it's already been so amazing. We arrived at the guest house at 11 pm, unpacked and went to bed after a long day. We had a delicious breakfast prepaired by Bertha, our cook (I'm adopting her as my second mom) and then headed out to La Jungla (the Jungle) for our first day in this beautiful country. 50 kids from ages 2-8 hopped off the bus for a couple of hours to escape what happens on the streets of Colombia. Their day at the jungle starts off with a nutritious breakfast as most of the kids are malnourished. They get to forget about what is happening at home and just be kids by playing soccer, basketball and other activities. We got the opportunity to tell a Bible story about the man who built his house on the rock and it was so cool to see the faces of the young kids as it was translated.
Once the kids were gone I was given the opportunity to go with Steve Bartel to drop the kids off with the bus. It was a real shock to see where the kids live and just the overall atmosphere. Prostitution, drugs, alcohol and witchcraft have a huge influence on these kids as they live close to a cemetary and are just blocks away from open prostitution houses. It really made me think about how much I have and how much I have to be thankful for. Our first day was amazing and I can't wait to see what else God does here in the next week!
